Fractus UPC Deep Tech Hub welcomes UPC’s 6GLabNet initiative to accelerate real-world 6G innovation

Apr 13, 2026

The Fractus UPC Deep Tech Hub welcomes the launch of 6GLabNet, UPC’s new experimental infrastructure for testing and validating 5G+ and 6G technologies with AI in real-world conditions. Presented by UPC on 8 April 2026, the platform is designed to serve research, education, public administration and industry, and stands out as a pioneering scientific infrastructure in Spain and a highly advanced facility in Europe.

This initiative is especially relevant because it focuses on use cases with clear societal impact. Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) highlights applications such as safer autonomous driving, drone-based delivery of medical supplies, and more efficient emergency service management, all of which depend on reliable, ultra-low-latency connectivity and realistic testing environments before commercial deployment.

The Hub also values the broader innovation potential of the infrastructure, which supports projects in assisted and autonomous mobility, AI in agriculture, drones, advanced mobile devices, Industry 4.0, robotics, augmented reality and real-time video. With its 32 km hybrid network linking Campus Diagonal Nord (Barcelona) and Campus del Baix Llobregat (Castelldefels), the iniciative 6GLabNet provides the kind of advanced environment needed to reduce technological risk, accelerate validation and help bring next-generation wireless solutions closer to society.

At the Fractus UPC Deep Tech Hub, we support projects like 6GLabNet that strengthen the connection between deep tech research and real-world impact, helping build the future of wireless communications through collaboration, experimentation and innovation.
